About "CIR"
The Center for Institutional Research (CIR) supports and enhances educational
management as part of the Institute for Excellence in Higher Education
(IEHE), through collecting and analyzing data relating to teaching and
learning, and reporting it to decision making bodies and faculties/departments
at Tohoku University.
【Mission】
(1)Promote academic research on current higher education policies and practices within and outside of Japan, develop evaluation theories on teaching and learning, and disseminate its findings globally.
(2)Support sustainable educational reforms and improvements and promote
a broad range of learning activities by students at Tohoku University through
developing effective systems of data collection, analysis, and reporting
for decision making on teaching and learning activities.
(3)Contribute to the establishment of an integrated education management system through mutual collaboration with the Academic Council, Centers of the IEHE, faculties/departments, and administrative organizations.
【Activities】
(1)Develop a data collecting system on teaching and learning and its environments
at Tohoku University, which is connected with course evaluation questionnaires,
assessment results and GPA, and other related data from the Educational
Affairs Information System.
(2)Advance a practical study on educational effectiveness and improvements
at Tohoku University through the systematic design, implementation, and
analysis of various surveys for new students, graduates, alumni, employers,
and university members.
(3)Support effective decision making and management through collecting,
analyzing and reporting data on teaching and learning at Tohoku University.
